The History of Speroni's:
With Medway’s 300th anniversary coming up this summer, we must
recall some of the legends of the town. A popular place was Speroni’s
restaurant, which was purchased by the Speroni family in 1948 as the“Red Top”
until having its name changed in 1954. The Speroni family was completely
dedicated to this Medway landmark and ran it as a family business. The
restaurant served Italian food and had pride in the family aspect that it
captured. The restaurant tragically caught fire in October of 1951 and the
owners worked diligently to repair the damage to be able to serve the adoring
Medway community again in March of 1952. The owners at this time were cousins
Peter Speroni and Richard Kingsbury who were known to work more than a full day
to support the restaurant. This kind of dedication was directly reflected in
the atmosphere of the restaurant and Medway’s reaction to the closing of the
restaurant in 2003.
